The Prefect stepped between the worn rug and ancient bookcases, of his office his long shadow tracing a path of worry across the walls. He ran a hand through his thinning hair, deep in thought as he reviewed the recent evidence from his informants. He stopped to stare out the window at the sprawling cityscape. What were his options? How did he move forward?

He paced the room, stopping to gaze out the window. His mind raced with thoughts of the troublesome Helsing boy and his misshapen humpback friend. He knew he needed guidance, and fast. With a deep breath, he eased into his chair, pulled a fresh piece of parchment from the drawer, and dipped his quill in ink. For hours he wrote, pouring over every detail, every thought, every fear. Finally satisfied with his brief but succinct message, he sealed it tight and addressed it to the Count.

After he completed the letter, he called his private letter service to have it delivered.
